Sheet-bend
The sheet-bend is one of the most useful knots and one of the few knots that can be used for tying two ropes together, even when rope sizes and materials differ greatly. It is important that the bitter (free) ends of the sheet-bend be on the same side, otherwise the knot will be unreliable. For greater security, especially in plastic rope, use the Double Sheet Bend as shown below. It is the same as the sheet bend but with an extra coil around the standing loop.
