Our Troop

The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. At our troop meetings we work on scouting skills, merit badges, play games and promote Scout Spirit. The troop is run by the scouts with assistance from adult leaders. If you are interested in scouting, drop by and observe on any meeting night and meet the scouts and leaders.

Membership in Troop-829 is open to all boys who have completed the fifth grade and are between the ages of 11 and 17 or to those boys who are in the Cub Scout program and have successfully completed their Arrow of Light Award as a Webelos Scout.

Troop-829 is a camping, hiking, merit badge active troop. Campouts and/or hikes are scheduled eleven months of the year and merit badge instruction is scheduled nearly every month. A Camporee is held during the Spring, Fall and Winter in which troops from our scouting district get together for fun and competition. A Summer Camp is held each summer at Camp Rock Enon in Gore, West Virginia.

The Troop is composed of the Scoutmaster (Adult) Assistant Scout Masters (Adults), youth Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant, Troop Scribe, Troop Quartermaster, Troop Guide, Troop Chaplain, Troop Historian and three Patrols.  Patrols are the Dragon Patrol, Scorpion Patrol and Rattlesnake Patrol. Each Patrol consists of four (4)to eight (8) scouts headed by a Patrol Leader. Other positions within a patrol are Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Scribe and Patrol Quartermaster. Overseeing the troop's welfare is the Troop Committee composed of parents, and other adults. Other helpers are our group of parents which provide transportation, merit badge counseling and other valuable assistance. The Chartered Organization has ownership of the troop to help fulfill aims and goals for youth development and provides the troop with a meeting place, leaders and guidance.
